The Motto of the Church of Latter-day Saints

See original document on the Joseph Smith Papers.

The Constitution of our country formed by the Fathers of liberty. Peace and good order in society. Love to God, and good will to man. All good and wholesome laws, virtue and truth above all things, and aristarchy, live forever! But woe to tyrants, mobs, aristocracy, anarchy, and toryism, and all those who invent or seek out unrighteous and vexatious law suits, under the pretext and color of law, or office, either religious or political. Exalt the standard of Democracy! Down with that of priestcraft, and let all the people say Amen! that the blood of our fathers may not cry from the ground against us. Sacred is the memory of that blood which bought for us our liberty.

That the blood and efforts of all of our fore bearers may not cry from the ground to us for our lack action in defense of the beautiful standard of truth and the Inspired Constitution that has been so graciously handed to us for righteousness sake.. that we may all say that we have been anxiously engaged for good and been given the standard to be taught correct principles and govern our selves . In His sacred name … Thank you Carter Rae

Should read “Proposed Motto”, as it was never, to my knowledge, formally adopted by the Church.
That said, it’s not bad work. Pithy and to the point, style could use a little tweaking.
That also said, it really does not measure up to the prose or power of The Standard of Truth and Pres. Kimball’s statement (1980) on the three-fold mission of the Church, both of which (in my opinion) should be adopted as the vision and mission statements of the Church.
