Camillo de Cavour
Cavour spent many frustrating years working for the unity of Italy. The capstone of all his efforts was his invitation to act as Italy’s first Prime Minister in 1852. When Cavour died in 1861, Italy was once again a single kingdom under a constitutional monarchy, save for Venetia and the city of Rome. Eventually these two also joined the new united land.
